If you are in the mood for delicious fresh homemade dinner rolls but have never made bread before, I recommend you start here. These rolls are both easy to make and will be a hit with your family! I found this recipe on TikTok @reviskitchenn.

I must admit the first time I made these homemade dinner rolls, I did not bake them long enough, so when you are baking them, you might need to adjust your baking time. The second time I made them, they came out perfect, and everyone loved them. So, let's dive right in.

You will need:

  • 1 cup of warmed milk (110°)

  • 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast

  • 2 tbs sugar

  • 4 tbs melted butter

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 cups flour

Take your warm milk, active dry yeast, and sugar and combine them in a bowl. Let this bloom for 10 minutes. It should look something like this.

yeast blooming

Once the yeast mixture is ready, in a stand mixer bowl I put my melted butter, egg, salt, and the yeast mixture. I used a dough hook on the stir setting to mix the ingredients mix the ingredients before adding the flour. I then slowly added in the 3 cups of flour, adding them 1/2 cup at a time. Once everything was added, I let that mix for about 10 minutes.

NOTE: You can absolutely mix this dough together without a stand mixer as well.

Once that is done, place your dough onto a floured surface; my dough was really sticky at this part. I hand kneaded it for about 5 minutes until it came together into a smooth dough ball. Then take a clean bowl, grease it with a little olive oil, and cover it with a dish towel for 1 hour. (I forgot to get a picture when I first put it in, but this was my dough part of the way through. Note: this picture is a double recipe, so yours won't look this big.)

dough proofing

Once the dough has proofed for 1 hour, you are going to punch the air out of the dough. Then place your dough back onto a floured surface and separate it into 12 equal balls. I used a scale to try to get these as close to the same size as possible; you don't have to do that, though.

I seperated my dough and then shaped it; that just worked easier for me. When you are shaping your dough, you want to hold the dough and then fold over the edges. Once I did that, I placed seam side down, cupped my hand into a "C" shape, and moved around in circles. This gave me perfectly round balls of dough! I placed them in a buttered baking dish, covered with a dish towel, and let them proof for 30 more minutes.

After the last proof, they were ready to bake! I started them off at 15 minutes at 375°, but this wasn't enough. I ended up baking them for about 20 minutes, until the tops were golden and the bottoms were nice and browned.

Once these homemade dinner rolls came out of the oven, I topped them with some butter. My family couldn't help but rip them open before they even cooled off. A hit even with the kids! Hope you enjoy! And remember, just because you don't get it right the first time doesn't mean you should stop trying!
