This delicious French Bread recipe is affordable, versatile, and super easy! You can keep it simple or turn it into a fancy culinary creation. Great for weeknight dinners when you are in a rush but want something homecooked. I made this french bread pizza for less than $20, I will have a cost breakdown as I go through the recipe!

You will need:

  • French bread

  • shredded cheese of your choice

  • pizza sauce/white sauce

  • toppings of your choosing ( I used mushrooms and onions and extra cheese)

  • butter

  • garlic salt

  • italian seasoning

When I decided to make these for dinner, we knew that we wanted a cheese pizza and a white pizza. I already had some ingredients on hand so we decided to just keep the pizzas simple. We wanted to make the white pizza with mushroom and onion. I already had onions, butter, garlic salt and italian seasoning at home.

I went to the store and picked up:

  • French Bread (two pack) $2.49

  • Fat Free Mozzarella Shredded Cheese- 2 bags @ $2.99 each

  • Bertolli Aged Parmesan & Italian Herbs Pizza Sauce - $3.29

  • Classico Traditional Pizza sauce- $2.99

  • Baby Bella Mushrooms- $2.29

To start, you want to preheat your oven to 400°. Next slice your french bread loaves in half. Then you want to take a stick of butter per loaf and melt it in the microwave. When it is finished, spread onto your bread and season with garlic salt and italian seasoning. I pre-baked the bread for 10 minutes.

french bread sliced, buttered and seasoned.

You don't have to prebake them but I have heard that they can get soggy if you don't. Once they are pre-baked, you can add your sauces. Then your cheese and toppings. For our white pizza, I placed our toppings on top of the cheese and it turned out good. However, when I make this again, I will be putting the sauce then toppings then cheese. I believe like it will bake better.

Bake at 400° for 10-15 minutes, until the cheese is melted. Our cheese didn't melt well but the bottoms of the bread was starting to burn so I took it out around 12 minutes. I think the fact it was pre-shredded cheese and low fat caused this.
